Obamas Shine Light on DC

April 30, 2009

One of the best things about the arrival of the Obamas in DC, is the fact that they have opened up the White House to the DC community. This really kicked off with the $25 Neighborhood Ball. Since then, the first couple welcomed local school children to the WH with activities such as calling astronauts, planting the white house garden, and celebrating African American History Month. But what makes the Obama’s really cool is that they do not feel restricted by the White House gates, have ventured out, and are getting to be regulars in the DC community. Check out these highlights:

Photoshopping the White House Flickr Stream

April 29, 2009

Photoshopping is so in right now! It hasn’t even been a day since the White House 100 days Flickr Stream has been up and aspiring artists have given photoshopping a go!

Elephant dies, Obama does the right thing. This is not a political statement.

Here’s what was really going on. Just another day in the life!

Happy 100th!

April 29, 2009

In honor of the administration’s first 100 days, the White House released some beautiful pictures on flickr that capture some very interesting behind scenes moments. Here are some of the highlights, showing that they Obamas are just like us…except for the fact that they rule the free world.

He’s Got Legs!

April 27, 2009

Our Presidential hottie was spotted playing a round of golf  in nearly 90-degree heat at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.  According to Huffington Post, Obama broke a style dictate that grown men should not wear shorts. I think not. With those legs — I’d be wearing daisy dukes.

Susan Boyle Sings Past Obama

April 24, 2009

I couldn’t resist posting on Susan Boyle, everyone is talking about here. I think unfortunatley it says much more about us as a society than it does about her and sadly I don’t think that is what people are talking about. In anycase, she has been a pheonomenal hit, even surpassing one of the coolest dudes around right now on youtube (hattip alleyinsider):

Presidential Kicks

April 23, 2009

What do shoes really say about the man? On Monday, POTUS was spotted wearing dress shoes while planting trees in honor of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. POTUS was joined by FLOTUS and Former POTUS Bill Clinton at DC’s very own Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. “Somebody forgot my boots,” Obama joked.  So all this means is that POTUS doesn’t pack his own shoes (and that Reggie Love made a boo-boo).

This is not the first time that the POTUS’ shoes have been the subject of interest. Last fall, this image appeared of POTUS’ humble campaign shoes, complete with holes in the sole. Do you think it will impede on his ability to walk on water?

The POTUS With the Mostest

April 22, 2009

Washingtonian magazine is honoring our new president with a cover story. Not just any cover story. One that will set hearts aflutter while scoping out the magazine rack at the grocery store. How do you think Michelle feels knowing women (and men) the country over are lusting over her hubby’s fine frame?

Oh mama!

Oh mama!

Another question: why the heck did Washingtonian decide to alter the color of Obama’s shorts from the original photo?

Apparently J Crew isn’t “American” enough for de la Renta

April 21, 2009

Just goes to show, you can’t please everyone all the time.  Oscar de la Renta is unhappy with Michelle’s supposed “tendency” towards wearing European designers, as evidenced by the European designers she wore on her recent trip to Europe.  (This is after he complained about her wearing a sweater to Buckingham Palace.)

According to WWD, de la Renta said: “Our industry right now is having a very difficult time. I think it would be great if the First Lady dressed in American styles. There are a lot of talented people here too.”

de la Renta went on “The View” to backpeddle on his opinionated words.

Friends Fur-ever

April 21, 2009

You knew it wouldn’t be long until you, yes YOU, could get your very own Portuguese Water Dog.  At just $6.99 a pop, Ty Beanie Babies will provide  you the love, companionship, and loyalty the Obama family is now enjoying.  Ty has been hitching their wagon to the Obama star for awhile now, perhaps in hopes of recapturing their popularity from the mid-1990s.  Will Bo do the trick?  Wait and see…

Bono–Step Aside!

Yes, Obama’s rockstar status continues. As he voyages to Mexico and beyond for the Summit of Americas, Obama enjoys the now typical adolation and adoration of his fans abroad.

No news yet on what Obama gifted Calderon with, but let us hope it’s better than a set of American DVD classics or an ipod pre-loaded with Barry’s favorite workout music.

At any rate, Calderon’s son, now the unofficial Luckiest Kid of the Week, didn’t seem to care either way.
