The POTUS Express

December 22, 2009

Obama spread a little holiday cheer with a visit to the Boys and Girls Club in northeast DC, where he read “The Polar Express” and shared a basket of cookies with the kids.  He also took the opportunity to chat about the meaning of Christmas.  Although the cookies don’t exactly fall in line with FLOTUS’ children’s nutrition work, can you blame POTUS for handing out Bo-shaped cookies?

Obama expressed surprised at the technologically advanced gifts the kids were hoping for.  His response to hopes for Playstations and cell phones?  “Whatever happened to like, asking for a bike?”

Happy Bo-day!

October 10, 2009

Our favorite first pet celebrated his first birthday yesterday (and certainly wasn’t overlooked by POTUS and family, despite all the excitement over the Nobel Peace Prize).  Here are some of BOL’s favorite first dog moments!

White House Kennel Club Dog Show?

May 12, 2009

From Obama’s recent dig about Biden being his new warm, cuddly, loyal, and enthusiastic addition to the White House to Biden’s jab at poor innocent Bo, it’s a veritable mutt-palooza at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

During a recent trip to a Syracuse,  NY elementary school, Biden  praised Champ, his 5 month old German Shephard: “My dog is smarter than Bo, his dog.”  Biden’s trash talk begins 8:30 minutes in to this clip.

(On a non-doggie related note, Biden touchingly referenced his first wife, Neilia Hunter Biden, in the course of his conversation with the students.)

Just like overzealous parents competing to have the smartest kids, dog owners can also indulge in proving their doggie’s superior intelligence. Perhaps the POTUS and his Veep can go head to head via PoochIQ.com or join Pet-Mensa.

Let the Doggie Throwdown begin!

Friends Fur-ever

April 21, 2009

You knew it wouldn’t be long until you, yes YOU, could get your very own Portuguese Water Dog.  At just $6.99 a pop, Ty Beanie Babies will provide  you the love, companionship, and loyalty the Obama family is now enjoying.  Ty has been hitching their wagon to the Obama star for awhile now, perhaps in hopes of recapturing their popularity from the mid-1990s.  Will Bo do the trick?  Wait and see…

It was a big day for the little guy! The Obama’s officially introducted Bo to the White House Press Corps today and kindly posted video and pictures to the whitehouse.gov blog. Looks like the Obamas are going to have their hands full. Michelle Obama stated that they will take turns walking him, which should be no problem considering they have 18 acres of land to run around on. Here are some great pics of the family showing Bo around the south lawn.  As the saying goes, “If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.”

It’s official, POTUS made good on his election night promise to his daugters! The Obamas welcomed Bo, a 6 month-old Portugese Water Dog, to the White House.  Apparently, Bo (then named Charlie) had been living with another family, but was returned because he wasn’t a a good fit.  So, the Kennedys acquired him for the Obama family. Not bad for Bo! To read more about the puppy, check out today’s WaPo and to read Bo’s first interview read this.
