Obama spread a little holiday cheer with a visit to the Boys and Girls Club in northeast DC, where he read “The Polar Express” and shared a basket of cookies with the kids. He also took the opportunity to chat about the meaning of Christmas. Although the cookies don’t exactly fall in line with FLOTUS’ children’s nutrition work, can you blame POTUS for handing out Bo-shaped cookies?

Obama expressed surprised at the technologically advanced gifts the kids were hoping for. His response to hopes for Playstations and cell phones? “Whatever happened to like, asking for a bike?”

An otherwise ordinary meal of grilled cheese and tater tots turned into one of the most coveted power lunches for students at Viers Mill Elementary School in Silver Spring when they got a surprise visit from POTUS himself! According to the WaPo, “students shook with excitement and some started crying at the sight of their famous guest.” Apparently he was on his way home from parent-teacher conferences at Sidwell Friends School where his two daughers are enrolled.
The President spent most of his 30 minute visit shaking hands and talking about what they’ve been reading. He also put in a plug for the Harry Potter books (which he read with daughter Malia) and for the book and the movie “Where the Wild Things Are” (which happens to be POTUS’ favorite book while growing up).
Cutest quote award goes to a little girl named Maya — who said that “this is the best day of my life …. in school.”

GI-NORMOUS ANNOUNCEMENT THIS MORNING! The Nobel Committee announced that President Obama was awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize. This announcement has created a lot of good and bad buzz (as it is only 9 months into his presidency).
To most, this came as a surprise — including to POTUS himself, who was informed of the news in a 6am phone call from Press Secretary Gibbs.
Yes we can, give peace a chance! (photo from Obama Magazine)
According to Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the Nobel Committee, they awarded it to POTUS for his “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples” and for his support in nuclear arms reduction. Mr. Jagland also said that “only rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future.”
We’ll keep you updated with POTUS’ remarks!

According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, the recession may be cramping the style of hip/hop artists. Maybe Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud didn’t get the memo. POTUS received an interesting gift from Saudi King Abdullah at the start of their bilateral meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia…..BLING-BLING! Actually, the ice is the Abdul Aziz Order of Merit. Barack’s a total BALLER!
By the way, King Abdullah...I have some dirt on my shoulders, can you brush it off for me? Photo credit should read MANDEL NGAN/AFP/Getty Images)
