The Red Carpet meets the White House

As the White House prepares for POTUS’ first State Dinner, it’s not international relations with India and guest of honor Dr. Manmohan Singh that are of utmost concern.  The media is abuzz about who will show up and what FLOTUS is gonna wear:  Will she sport a new hairdo?  Show off her blazing guns?  Looks like the First Lady has always been a fashion plate, even as a wee lass at her 1984 senior prom.

Word on the street is that Jennifer Hudson will provide some American Idol-style entertainment at the gala event.  Other rumored guests: Deepak Chopra, Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Bobby Jindal, and Kal Penn.  BoL can’t wait to see who else will grace the “red carpet” tonight!

Vanity Fair totally jumped on the lovefest bandwagon and included our FLOTUS on their 2009 Best Dressed List.  BoL totally concurs!

Michelle busted out quite the fashion move at yesterday’s White House workshop on country music. This woman CANNOT miss, y’all!

I’ve got the blue jean blues

Our POTUS is getting a bit of heat for his performance at the aforementioned first pitch.  Not because he couldn’t clear the plate, though.  Because of his fashion choice, particularly the jeans he wore.  Some have gone so far as to label them “mom jeans.”  Ouch!

In an interview with Good Morning America’s Meredith Veira, Obama defended his outfit, saying the jeans were comfortable, and admitting that until a few years ago, he only owned four suits.  According to Barry, “I’m a little frumpy…  For those of you who want your president to look great in his tight jeans, I’m sorry.  I’m not the guy.”  He sweetly added that the FLOTUS looks fabulous.  Heck ya she does!

While POTUS rocks the shirtless look or formal wear, he has had his low moments.  Haven’t we all?

Roman Holiday, POTUS Style

The Obamas hit Rome on Friday, although from their stylin’ duds, you would’ve thought they were in Milan.

The main intent of the trip was to visit the Vatican and Pope Benedict XVI.  Michelle gave a nod to Italy by donning Italian designer Moschino duds, including a black veil.  Respectful?  Yes.  Our FLOTUS?  No.  (Where’s the color?)

The gift exchange was less “frivolous” than usual. The pope gave Obama a “Vatican document on bioethics that hardened the church’s opposition to using embryos for stem cell research, cloning and in-vitro fertilization.”  Obama gave a much thought over St. John Neumann’s stole and a hand written letter from Sen Edward Kennedy.

I Love the 80s

Turns out our POTUS wasn’t always the picture of cool he is today.  No, turns out that when he was a freshman, he still sported some baby fat, featured a demi-fro (we pray that look will come back), and thought cigarettes were cool. 

Even in 1980, though, Barry caught the ladies’ eyes.  While a freshman at Occidental College (before transferring to Columbia), classmate Lisa Jack asked if she could take a few photos of him for her portfolio.  Ever the public servant, Obama agreed.  Thankfully for POTUS’ adoring fans, Ms. Jack was able to find the old roll of film in her basement.

Michelle Baryshnikov?

Everyone’s favorite FLOTUS hit the NY glamour-ground running Monday when she served as honorary co-chairwoman opening night at the American Ballet Theater, where she was introduced by Caroline Kennedy.

Earlier in the day, Michelle served as ribbon cutter for the reopening of the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she rubbed shoulders with the likes of Ralph Lauren, Iman, and Anna Wintour.

A Case of Brotherly Love

A self-professed White Sox fan, Obama met with underdog World Series winners the Philadelphia Phillies at the White House today.  Ever the appropriate sports team, the Phillies (and shortstop Jimmy Rollins, in particular) gifted our POTUS with a personalized Phillies jersey.  To this Obama joked, “Can I have your ring, too?”  When it came time for photo opps, he hammed “Everyone say cheesesteak.”  (BoL just rolled its collective eyes.)

Obama compared himself to the Phillies, saying “Nobody thought I would win, either.”  We did!

Presidential Kicks

What do shoes really say about the man? On Monday, POTUS was spotted wearing dress shoes while planting trees in honor of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. POTUS was joined by FLOTUS and Former POTUS Bill Clinton at DC’s very own Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. “Somebody forgot my boots,” Obama joked.  So all this means is that POTUS doesn’t pack his own shoes (and that Reggie Love made a boo-boo).

This is not the first time that the POTUS’ shoes have been the subject of interest. Last fall, this image appeared of POTUS’ humble campaign shoes, complete with holes in the sole. Do you think it will impede on his ability to walk on water?
